5th Grade Classroom Jobs

Friends,

After day two, I am happy to report that I love 5th grade. After day one, I wasn’t so sure. Now, I’m pretty positive. In fact, I think it’s quite lovely. I haven’t found my groove yet, but I got really close with one of my classes. And for this, I am so grateful.I would love to tell you about the first and second days of 5th grade, but I have been introduced to ‘back-to-school’ tired. I mean, I am so tired my toe nails hurt….I know. So instead, I will introduce you to our new class plant. As you know, I don’t do pets; I do plants. If you follow along you know the saga of Mascoto, my bell-pepper plant. If you want, you may read about his life and death here and here and here….or not.

So, I am proud to introduce our class bamboo plant. (Note – he or she will be named tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted!) Isn’t he or she lovely?

In order to make sure our plant is protected and cared for, we have a list of class jobs….the bottom one being the most important. 🙂 IT WAS THE FIRST JOB CHOSEN!

When I introduced our bamboo plant, I did a whole sermon talk about how they were SUPER special because they were the only students to have a bamboo plant instead of a class pet. I carried the plant around to each table, they observed him/her, they ‘ohhhhed’, they ‘ahhhhed, it was perfect. This was one of the points in the day where I was convinced, these kiddos were winners.

My kids must be really gullible eager-to-please because I found this in a journal today – ahhahahahahahaha!

Well, friends – this is my life. Bamboo plants and putting kids on the wrong buses and hurting toe tails…but I really cannot imagine any better way to spend my time. Now, I am going to bed. Yes, it is only 8:59 PM and yes, I have DRAs to grade, and yes, I did take a 2 hour nap, but my toe nails hurt, so good night.

  1. Ah yes….the beginning of the school year tired. I know it well. Fortunately, we don't start with the kiddos until Sept. 3rd so I have a little more time to get there!
