Description
A complete 1st grade place value system for independent math centers AND targeted intervention. Help students build, compare, and reason with tens and ones while giving yourself a clear plan for what to do when place value isn’t clicking.
Place value can look solid on paper before it’s solid in students’ thinking.
Students may be able to name tens and ones but still:
🔢 count everything by ones
⚖️ compare digits instead of quantities
🧩 struggle when the same number is represented differently
This bundle gives those two classroom needs two different jobs:
🎲 PLACE VALUE GAMES & CENTERS = meaningful, independent practice
🎯 PLACE VALUE INTERVENTION = targeted, teacher-led support
That means students can practice place value independently while you pull a small group, identify what’s getting in the way, and provide intentional intervention.
One place value system. Two different jobs.
🎲 RESOURCE #1: PLACE VALUE GAMES & CENTERS
These hands-on 1st grade place value centers help students use tens and ones to think, not just identify them. Students build numbers, compare quantities using structure, and reason across different representations.
7 games and centers included:
⭐ Spin It & Make It, Levels 1–3: Build numbers using tens and ones
⭐ Roll, Build, Race, Levels 1–3: Compose and decompose numbers
⭐ Spin, Find, Cover, Levels 1–3: Connect numerals and place value representations
⭐ Build to 100: Strengthen grouping and unitizing
⭐ Same or Different?, Levels 1–3: Reason about equivalent quantities
⭐ Pull and Compare, Levels 1–2: Compare numbers using place value structure
⭐ Ordering Numbers, Levels 1–2: Reason about number magnitude
Multiple levels allow you to adjust the thinking without constantly teaching new center routines. Levels reflect the kind of thinking required, not student speed or grade level.
🎯 RESOURCE #2: PLACE VALUE INTERVENTION
When practice isn’t enough, don’t start the whole place value unit over.
Use the included Diagnostic Entry Tool to identify the specific place value need and choose one of three targeted intervention pathways.
PATHWAY 1: Unit Trust
For students who don’t yet treat ten as a meaningful unit.
PATHWAY 2: Comparing with Structure
For students who compare digits instead of reasoning about quantities.
PATHWAY 3: Quantity Stability
For students who don’t yet understand that a quantity stays the same when tens and ones are regrouped or represented differently.
Each pathway includes structured routines, guided practice and transfer tasks, 3 Quick Checks, optional written assessments, and tools for monitoring student progress. The intervention system also includes student pathway logs, a class data tracker, advancement gates, and Tier 1/Tier 2 implementation guidance.

I use this resource for tutoring and group discussion. Easy to use, and kids are grasping the concept.

I used this to help my students that were struggling to understand place value. It provided me with lessons and materials. The students enjoyed the fun games to practice their learning.
