My name is Catherine Reed, and I am in Year 12 of my elementary life, residing in small-town, Kentucky. I student taught in 1st grade and never imagined myself being somewhere other than Primary Land. God had other plans for my life, and I was blessed with a 5th grade classroom almost a decade years ago (WHOA!). God is good and He is faithful. Intermediate Land was a fantastic place for me, and I fell in love with my kiddos, the content, and my teaching team. In 5th grade I was a 1:1 iPad classroom sans reading/writing curriculum (BEFORE Google Classroom) and am proud to say I had the best classroom library around.
Moving schools/cities, I returned to my hometown to teach 1st grade for 3 years. This school was the most lovely place – a Leader in Me school, brand new, amazing administrators, awesome team teachers. I was self-contained classroom, but traded students for an hour a day for Reading and Math RtI. Then I lead a combination K/1 class with 13 first graders and 11 kindergarten friends and looped with them to teach a 1st and 2nd grade combination class. It was SUCH a challenge but an amazing experience. I grew so much through those three years.
In the Summer of 2018 I finished up my Masters of Literacy Education and was offered a grant-funded literacy coach position in my District. Serving as a coach to 3 schools participating in the Striving Readers Grant, I partnered with classroom teachers to coteach, model, plan, and problem-solve together. In the Fall (2019), I accepted a more permanent position as a coach/consultant in the same district. Since June 2021 I am a MTSS (Multi-tiered Systems of Supports) and Literacy Consultant with Green River Regional Educational Cooperative. While my heart is in the classroom, for right now, this position is incredibly rewarding, challenging, and keeps me on my toes.
As a book nerd, a chocolate lover, and a pro napper, I am so glad you’ve join me in this teaching adventure. It’s is going to be fantastic.
