Description
Motivating students to become wild readers is always one of my top priorities each school year. From ridiculously engaging read-aloud voices to weekly themed shelves, I am willing to pull out all the stops because growing students into readers matters. One of the easiest ways to achieve student buy-in is peer pressure! Getting students to suggest books to other students immediately validates the recommendation.

My students enjoyed using this activity, writing about books they had read, to share with first grade students who would be coming to second grade. Even a few of my boys, who try hard to write as little as possible, were excited to share about the books they had read, why they enjoyed the book, what they thought was the best part, and one even offered a few other books connected to the same subject.

It’s hard to get kids excited about sharing books, but the kids loved it when other kids read a book they recommended. This made the process much easier.

I used this resource for my more advanced students. It gave them a fun way to recommend a book to their peers, and it also allowed others to decide if it would be a good book for themselves!
